Scottish Opera 2018

The Emperor of Ming dynasty China, Zhu Di, decides to send out an enormous fleet of nine-masted ships,
each the length of three football pitches, in order to increase China’s trade and influence in the mysterious
lands to the west. Each ship is laden with fabulous treasure which will be distributed wherever they make
friendly landfall. The Emperor chooses his old, trusted friend, Admiral Zheng He, to lead the expedition.

When he arrives in Africa on Wednesday 18th April 2018 he is met with the friendly P4-7 pupils from Toward Primary School.

Hamjambo! Hamjambo! Hello!
Hamjambo! Hamjambo! Hello!
Hamjambo! Hamjambo! Hello!
Hamjambo! Hamjambo! Hello!

You’re welcome in Africa,
Sun it will bake you in Africa,
Lions and snakes they’ll come after ya,
What a big continent—Africa!
We’ve got jungles and deserts and great, big savannahs,
Hippos and rhinos and chimps chew bananas,
And dancing,
And drumming,
Oh we like to sing,
All in the land we call Africa!

Kwaherini! Kwaherini! Goodbye!
Kwaherini! Kwaherini! Goodbye!
Kwaherini! Kwaherini! Goodbye!
Kila laheri! Good luck!
